23 Civil Society Groups Including Restore The Fourth Request Meeting with FBI Director Kash Patel on Surveillance Reform, Transparency

This week Restore The Fourth joined a set of 23 civil society organizations from across the political spectrum urging FBI Director Kash Patel to meet with us to discuss surveillance reform and transparency.

The groups urged Director Patel to:

  • Support reforms that require a warrant by default prior to querying U.S. persons’ communications collected under FISA Section 702;
  • Narrow its broad domestic terrorism assessments and investigations to prevent targeting Americans based on their beliefs and associations;
  • Support “Lee-Leahy” reforms that strengthen FISC oversight;
  • Provide a good-faith estimate of the number of U.S. persons communications subjected to FISA 702 surveillance;
  • And more, including declassifying key FBI documents in the public’s interest, stopping the practice of parallel construction, and suspect use of geofence and keyword warrants.
